The Electric Incident Investigations (EII) team at PG&E investigates equipment failures, outages, and compliance events across transmission, distribution, and substation assets. As an intern, you will work alongside experienced investigators on active cases, gaining hands-on experience in applied failure analysis and electric system compliance. You will contribute to technical cause evaluation reports, support regulatory data requests, and analyze incident trends to help improve grid safety and reliability.
What you'll do#
- Draft technical cause evaluation reports by synthesizing evidence, data, and engineering judgment.
- Assist with CPUC data requests by researching prior responses, gathering data, and drafting language for review.
- Extract and analyze incident data from internal systems to identify trends and systemic patterns.
- Coordinate across departments, including the Corrective Action Program (CAP), Electric Asset Strategy, and Acceptance Testing Services (ATS), to gather information for active cases.
- Support the maintenance and updates of team procedures and job aids.
- Participate in field visits to observe evidence collection and equipment assessments, and support testing activities at the Acceptance Testing Services facility.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Aerospace, Chemical, or Civil Engineering, or a science field such as Physics, Chemistry, Biology, or Fire Science.
- Must be continuing education towards your degree during or after the internship.
- Cumulative and major GPA of 3.0 or greater.
- Strong written and oral communication skills, including technical report writing, email, presentations, and data summaries.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently with minimal direction.
Location & details#
- Location: Oakland, California.
- Term: Summer 2026.
- Work Modality: Hybrid (approximately three days per week in the office).
- Employment Type: Full-time.
- Compensation: $24.52 – $35.37 per hour.
