About the role#
The GIS Intern will work within the Electric Asset Knowledge Management Division to support the design and maintenance of mapping applications and spatial data services. This role operates in a production enterprise environment, providing exposure to diverse GIS use cases including wildfire management, environmental analysis, and field data collection. Interns contribute to projects that support emergency response teams, engineers, and planners through interactive dashboards and automated spatial data pipelines.
What you'll do#
- Develop and enhance GIS web mapping applications and data services.
- Create and maintain interactive web maps, environmental layers, and asset data analyses.
- Assist with data preparation, visualization, and the development of spatial data pipelines.
- Support workflows that improve situational awareness for wildfire and environmental operations.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Data Science.
- Must be continuing education towards a degree during or after the internship.
- Cumulative and major GPA of 3.0 or higher.
- Basic knowledge of computer science and information technology, specifically regarding 3D point cloud data, NAS, and AWS systems.
- Strong organizational and analytical problem-solving skills.
