Electric Planning Policy & Modernization Intern

About the role#

The Electric Planning Policy & Modernization (EPPM) team focuses on preparing the electric grid for future complexities. This role involves supporting the development of distribution planning tools and utilizing advanced automated analytics to improve grid transparency. You will work alongside engineers, product managers, and analysts to facilitate the integration of Distributed Energy Resources (DERs) such as solar, energy storage, and energy efficiency.

What you'll do#

• Support the development and enhancement of distribution planning tools using automated analytics.
• Perform statistical data analysis and validation to support the publication of public maps for DER developers.
• Identify improvements for distribution grid modeling and simulations.
• Develop automated tools to increase the efficiency of distribution planning processes.
• Analyze and synthesize data streams to support the annual distribution planning process, including the Grid Needs Assessment and Distribution Upgrade Project Report.
• Extract information from databases to address key business questions and document methods for including load applications in forecasts.

What you'll need#

• Currently earning a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field (must be continuing education during or after the internship).
• A cumulative and major GPA of 3.0 or greater.
• Expertise in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word.
• Familiarity with Python and SQL scripts.
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
