    About the role#

    The ATS Failure Analysis Engineer Intern will support the Materials & Failure Analysis and electric operations asset management teams. This role provides hands-on exposure to metallurgy, heat transfer, and failure analysis through work with materials such as steel, aluminum, copper, and ceramics. You will assist senior engineers with testing, analysis, and reporting, including support for the enhanced ignition investigation program. This position is based in the metallurgical laboratory and involves operating equipment such as Scanning Electron Microscopes (SEM), light microscopes, and FTIR spectroscopy under the supervision of lab technicians.

    What you'll do#

    • Apply engineering principles and scientific theory to perform testing, calculations, and analysis under the direction of senior staff.
    • Design test plans and select appropriate standards, methods, and protocols, subject to review by senior peers.
    • Perform inspection, analysis, and reporting for the enhanced ignition investigation program.
    • Develop and implement continuous improvement initiatives for lab activities, including sample inventory management, lab processes, and safety.
    • Prepare monthly progress reports on productivity, turnaround time, and other business metrics.
    • Support miscellaneous engineering and test projects as needed.

    What you'll need#

    • Current enrollment in a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree program in Mechanical, Materials, Chemical, Civil, Industrial, or Electrical Engineering at an accredited university.
    • Basic knowledge of engineering research and testing concepts, practices, and methods.
    • Prior experience working in a lab environment.
    • Strong organizational and analytical problem-solving skills.
    • Proficiency with MS Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
    • Ability to continue education towards a degree during or after the internship.
