About the role#
The Facilities Electrical Engineer / AutoCAD Design Intern supports the Facilities Maintenance and Engineering team at our Columbus, Mississippi engine plant. This role offers hands-on experience within a manufacturing environment, focusing on the planning, design, and documentation of facility infrastructure. You will work alongside engineers, maintenance personnel, and contractors to support daily operations and long-term facility improvements.
What you'll do#
- Update, maintain, and revise AutoCAD drawings for facility layouts, mechanical systems, and electrical schematics.
- Assist with space planning, equipment installations, and facility renovation projects.
- Conduct field verifications, site walkdowns, and measurements to produce as-built documentation.
- Read and interpret technical drawings to assist with system coordination.
- Review drawings for accuracy and compliance with engineering standards.
- Incorporate field conditions and approved changes into controlled design documentation.
- Help develop standard work procedures and facilities engineering documentation.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives for facility design and processes.
- Support project management tasks, including documentation and tracking.
- Provide design support through redlines, markups, and revisions.
What you'll need#
- Current pursuit or completion of a BS in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Engineering Technology, or a related field.
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD or similar CAD software.
- Ability to read and understand mechanical and electrical engineering drawings.
- Basic understanding of building systems, such as HVAC, electrical infrastructure, and utilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Strong attention to detail for maintaining accurate documentation.
- Effective communication skills and the ability to work in a team environment.
- Interest in project management and continuous improvement practices.
