About the role#
This paid summer internship runs from late May through early August. As an IT Security Architecture Intern, you will gain an inside look at how cybersecurity is considered when technology solutions are designed and reviewed. You will work with a mentor to apply your classroom knowledge to real projects that match your background. The role provides the opportunity to work in a hybrid environment, balancing virtual and in-office work.
What you'll do#
- Learn the role of security architecture within an enterprise cybersecurity program.
- Observe security architecture and risk review activities to learn how architects evaluate technology.
- Learn to read architecture diagrams, including users, systems, networks, integrations, data flows, and security boundaries.
- Review existing security reference architecture templates and supporting guidance.
- Research common technology and security architecture patterns.
- Compare example designs with documented security requirements.
- Help create or improve diagrams, documentation, checklists, and other reusable security architecture materials.
- Discuss observations and questions with cybersecurity and technology team members.
- Document assigned work and communicate technical topics to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Develop and deliver a final presentation summarizing your projects, observations, and key learnings.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in Cybersecurity, Information Security, Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Systems, Computer Engineering, Network Engineering, or a closely related technical discipline.
- Completion of introductory coursework in cybersecurity or information security.
- A minimum 3.0 GPA.
- Basic understanding of cybersecurity concepts such as networking, identity and access, vulnerabilities, encryption, and security controls.
- Experience with Microsoft Visio or other Unified Modeling Language (UML) applications.
- Experience with conversational products.
- Security+ or equivalent cybersecurity certification.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to research unfamiliar technical topics.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without company sponsorship now and in the future.
- Additional experience through labs, personal projects, competitions, or previous internships is preferred.
- Familiarity with network, cloud, application, artificial intelligence, or identity security concepts is a plus.
- Familiarity with cybersecurity frameworks or industry security guidance is helpful.
