About the role#
This position offers practical experience in a retail pharmacy setting under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist. You will support the pharmacy team in professional tasks, patient care, and daily operations while gaining hands-on knowledge of pharmacy business and clinical workflows.
What you'll do#
- Prepare prescriptions with accuracy and efficiency, including data entry and dispensing.
- Manage inventory, including ordering, adjustments, and returns.
- Counsel patients on medication use and respond to questions about prescriptions, over-the-counter items, and supplements.
- Process insurance claims, determine third-party eligibility, and resolve billing issues.
- Receive new prescriptions over the phone and interpret written orders from prescribers.
- Provide patient health screenings, such as blood pressure checks.
- Make immunization recommendations based on state law and current guidelines.
- Administer immunizations under pharmacist supervision if requirements are met.
- Complete Medication Therapy Management interventions and patient outreach.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and professional pharmacy workstation.
- Participate in corporate programs and business development initiatives.
What you'll need#
- Completion of the first professional year of pharmacy study.
- A state-licensed pharmacy intern permit where applicable.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to exercise good judgment.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills for interacting with patients and the pharmacy team.
- Knowledge of state pharmacy laws, regulations, and common insurance billing procedures.
- A friendly, helpful attitude with a focus on customer service.
- One year of previous experience in a community pharmacy is preferred.
- Prior experience as a pharmacy teammate for at least 6 months is preferred.
