About the role#
WAVY-TV 10 and WVBT FOX43 are looking for a newsroom intern for the Winter 2027 term. This is an unpaid, for-credit position designed to provide hands-on experience in a local broadcast environment. You will work 12-15 hours per week on-site with a flexible schedule that includes weekends and weekdays.
What you'll do#
- Support the assignment desk with daily operations.
- Help producers write and prepare content for newscasts.
- Work alongside editors to finalize news segments.
- Assist photographers and reporters in the newsroom and out in the field.
- Shoot and edit footage for on-air stories.
- Learn how different departments within a television station function together.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a college degree program.
- Proof of enrollment in an internship course for college credit.
- Completed coursework in journalism.
- A solid understanding of journalistic integrity.
- A genuine interest in the broadcast field.
- Familiarity with newswriting software, video shooting, or video editing software is helpful but not required.
Location & details#
- This internship is located in Portsmouth, Virginia.
- The role is on-site only.
- You must be available for a varying schedule between Sunday and Saturday.
