About the role#
The internship program at KOIN 6 and KRCW offers college students hands-on experience in broadcast and digital media. Participants gain an in-depth look at industry operations across various departments, including news, lifestyle programming, digital media, promotions, sports, and sales. This program is designed for educational purposes and is intended to provide practical experience in an applied setting.
What you'll do#
- Prepare and assist with production for lifestyle and entertainment shows, including script writing, guest coordination, and set maintenance.
- Shadow professionals in journalism, including the assignment desk, weather, photography, editing, and reporting teams.
- Create and post multimedia stories for digital platforms and social media channels.
- Assist in the coordination of marketing and promotional activities for station events.
- Learn professional phone etiquette and presentation skills to support sales and programming processes.
- Assist on-air talent with board operations and general administrative tasks.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as a full-time student at a college or university, specifically entering or currently in your junior or senior year.
- Mandatory receipt of academic credit for the internship, verified by a letter from an academic advisor.
- Relevant coursework in TV production, journalism, or communications, depending on the specific department.
- Exceptional English and grammar skills for journalism-focused roles.
- Working knowledge of industry software such as WordPress, CMS, AVID, Final Cut, or Adobe Creative Suites where applicable.
- Strong ability to multi-task and communicate effectively in a professional environment.
Location & details#
- Location: Portland, Oregon.
- Work Modality: On-site.
- Commitment: 16 hours per week for 8 to 12 weeks.
- Compensation: This is an unpaid internship for academic credit.
