About the role#
This internship provides hands-on experience in the daily operations of a local television station. You will work directly with producers to plan and prepare content for daily lifestyle and entertainment programming. You will also support directors with technical production tasks. This is an unpaid, for-credit position for the Winter 2027 term.
What you'll do#
- Assist with daily show rundowns, including writing and creating graphics.
- Perform floor directing duties during live broadcasts.
- Manage guest arrivals, including greeting and placing microphones.
- Handle set logistics, such as prop setup, takedown, and wrapping the set after each show.
- Operate cameras as needed.
- Contribute to digital efforts by posting stories to the website and creating social media content.
- Assist with kitchen cleanup.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a college degree program.
- Proof of enrollment in an internship course.
- Completed coursework in communications, journalism, TV production, theater, or a related field.
- Ability to maintain composure while working under tight deadlines.
- Strong communication skills to interact with team members and show guests.
Location & details#
- This role is located in Portsmouth, Virginia.
- The position requires 12 to 15 hours per week, Monday through Friday, during morning hours.
- This is an on-site position. Specific schedules are determined in agreement with your supervisor.
