About the role#
WAVY-TV 10 and WVBT FOX43 are looking for a Sports Intern for the Winter 2027 term. This position offers an opportunity to learn the inner workings of a newsroom and the Sports Department. You will gain experience by working alongside photographers and sports reporters both in the newsroom and out in the field.
What you'll do#
- Write, shoot, and edit content for sports reports in newscasts.
- Prepare materials for final on-air stories.
- Collaborate with the sports team on daily newsroom tasks.
- Explore other departments and functions within a television station.
What you'll need#
- Currently enrolled in a college degree-granting program.
- Proof of enrollment in an internship course for credit.
- Completed coursework in journalism and TV production.
- A solid understanding of journalistic integrity.
- Working knowledge of video editing software such as AVID or Final Cut Pro.
- Experience with ADOBE Creative Suites is preferred.
- Familiarity with sports and newswriting software is a plus.
- A willingness to learn how a local newsroom functions.
Location & details#
- Location: Portsmouth, Virginia.
- Work modality: On-site.
- Term: Winter 2027.
- Commitment: 12 to 15 hours per week.
- Schedule: Varying days and times between Sunday and Saturday, set in agreement with your supervisor.
- This is an unpaid, for-credit internship.
