About the role#
Nexstar Media Group is hiring a paid intern for the Summer 2026 semester in Wichita, Kansas. This role is designed for an upper-level college student to gain hands-on experience in a professional newsroom. You will shadow producers, reporters, photographers, and editors to understand how local news is produced and distributed. Following an initial training period, your work will focus on photojournalism, multi-media journalism, or newscast production based on your skills and interests. Please note that some sports coverage, specifically high school football, is expected for those involved in video production.
What you'll do#
- Shadow various newsroom team members to learn daily operations.
- Shoot and edit video content for broadcast and digital platforms.
- Write stories for broadcast and digital outlets.
- Assist with stacking newscasts.
- Work 15 to 20 hours per week, typically across 2 to 3 shifts.
- Expect a flexible schedule that may include weekends, early mornings, or evenings.
- Participate in a final evaluation with your supervisor at the end of the term.
What you'll need#
- Current status as a college junior or senior majoring in Journalism or Communications.
- Completion of multiple journalism courses.
- Proven experience in news writing, such as AP Style for college newspapers or broadcast scripts.
- A collaborative mindset and a desire to learn.
- Fluency in English (Spanish language skills are a plus).
- Previous internship experience is helpful but not required.

- This is an on-site position based in Wichita, Kansas.
- The internship runs for the Summer 2026 semester.
- Weekly hours range from 15 to 20 hours over a 15 to 20 week period.
