Paid Intern (Photojournalist/Multi-Media Journalist/Producer)

About the role#

This paid internship provides an opportunity for upper-level college students to gain hands-on experience in a television newsroom. Interns will work alongside producers, reporters, photographers, and editors to develop professional skills. Following an initial training period, the internship will focus on photojournalism, multi-media journalism, or newscast production, tailored to the individual's existing skills and experience. The internship is scheduled for the Summer 2026 semester.

What you'll do#

• Shadow various newsroom team members to learn essential production and reporting workflows.
• Engage in specific tasks such as shooting and editing video, writing stories for broadcast and digital platforms, and stacking newscasts.
• Provide sports coverage, with a focus on high school football, for those assigned to video production and editing.
• Complete an evaluation with your internship supervisor at the end of the program.

What you'll need#

• Current enrollment as a college junior or senior with multiple journalism courses completed.
• Demonstrated collegiate experience in news writing, such as AP Style for newspapers, broadcast script writing, or similar assignments.
• A collaborative mindset and a strong willingness to learn.
• Fluency in English; bilingual skills in Spanish are considered a plus.
• Previous internship experience is preferred but not required.

Location & details#

• Location: Wichita, Kansas.
• Modality: On-site.
• Commitment: 15-20 hours per week for approximately 15-20 weeks.
• Schedule: Expect to work 2-3 shifts per week, which may include odd hours, weekends, early mornings, or evenings. Schedules will be coordinated to accommodate class requirements.
