About the role#
The Hampton Roads Show Production Intern will work with the production team at WAVY-TV 10, WVBT FOX43, and The CW Hampton Roads. You will gain experience in a local newsroom by assisting producers with daily lifestyle and entertainment programming and supporting directors with technical production tasks.
What you'll do#
- Plan and prepare for daily shows.
- Work in the show rundown by writing content and creating graphics.
- Assist with floor directing during live broadcasts.
- Manage guest arrivals, including placing microphones.
- Handle set logistics, such as prop setup, takedown, and wrapping the set after filming.
- Operate cameras and assist with kitchen cleanup.
- Publish stories to the website and create content for social media.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a college degree program.
- Proof of enrollment in an internship course for credit.
- Completed coursework in communications, TV production, journalism, theater, or a related field.
- Ability to remain calm when working under tight deadlines.
- Strong communication skills to interact with the production team and show guests.
- A willingness to learn how a local newsroom functions.
Location & details#
- This role is based in Portsmouth, Virginia.
- The position is on-site with no option for telecommuting.
- This is an unpaid, for-credit internship for the Winter 2027 term.
- You will work 12 to 15 morning hours per week, Monday through Friday, with specific schedules determined by your supervisor.
