About the role#
This internship offers a look into the daily operations of a local newsroom. You will work with producers and directors to support the production of a daily lifestyle and entertainment show. This is an unpaid, for-credit position for the Winter 2027 semester.
What you'll do#
- Assist producers with show planning and preparation.
- Collaborate with directors on technical production tasks.
- Write content and create graphics for the daily show rundown.
- Perform floor directing duties during live broadcasts.
- Manage guest arrivals, including placing microphones.
- Handle set logistics, such as prop setup, takedown, and wrapping the set after filming.
- Operate cameras.
- Post stories to the station website and create social media content.
- Assist with kitchen cleanup.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a college degree program.
- Proof of enrollment in an internship course for credit.
- Completed coursework in communications, TV production, journalism, theater, or a related field.
- Ability to maintain composure under strict deadlines.
- Strong communication skills to interact with the team and show guests.
- A genuine interest in learning how a local newsroom functions.
Location & details#
- Location: Portsmouth, Virginia.
- Modality: On-site only.
- Schedule: 12 to 15 morning hours per week, Monday through Friday. Specific times are set in agreement with your supervisor.
