About the role#
This 10-week summer internship offers hands-on experience in insurance underwriting. You will learn how to evaluate risk, assess potential customers, and develop pricing recommendations for group insurance solutions. This program provides exposure to the underwriting profession through formal training, mentorship, and real-world assignments.
What you'll do#
- Participate in structured training sessions to build a foundational understanding of Group Benefits underwriting principles, products, and risk evaluation.
- Partner with an experienced underwriter through one-on-one mentorship.
- Analyze real underwriting cases by assessing risk factors and contributing to pricing decisions.
- Collaborate with fellow interns on a summer-long project.
- Attend speaker sessions and learning events led by New York Life leaders.
What you'll need#
- Rising senior status pursuing a bachelor's degree in Risk Management, Economics, Finance, Accounting, Mathematics, Data Analytics, or Business Management.
- Strong analytical, quantitative, and critical thinking skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, specifically Microsoft Excel and Word.
- An overall GPA of 3.0 or higher is preferred.
- Previous coursework or internship experience in finance, insurance, risk management, or data analysis is preferred.
- Authorization to work in the U.S. without employment-based sponsorship.

- Location: Overland Park, Kansas.
- Term: Summer 2027.
- Work Modality: Hybrid (3 days per week in the office).
- Status: Full-time and paid position ($21 per hour).
