About the role#
The Group Benefit Solutions (GBS) Underwriting Summer Internship Program provides an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in insurance underwriting. During this 10-week summer program, interns learn how to evaluate risk, assess potential customers, and develop pricing recommendations for group insurance solutions. You will work on real-world assignments while building a foundation in the insurance industry.
What you'll do#
- Participate in structured training sessions to build a foundational understanding of Group Benefits underwriting principles, products, and risk evaluation.
- Partner with an experienced underwriter through one-on-one mentorship while engaging with senior leaders and expanding your professional network.
- Analyze real underwriting cases by assessing risk factors and contributing to pricing decisions that support business growth and profitability.
- Collaborate with fellow interns on a summer-long project that strengthens analytical thinking, problem-solving, and teamwork skills.
- Attend speaker sessions and learning events led by leaders across Underwriting, Finance, and related business functions.
What you'll need#
- Rising senior status pursuing a bachelor's degree in Risk Management, Economics, Finance, Accounting, Mathematics, Data Analytics, Business Management, or a related field.
- Strong analytical, quantitative, and critical thinking skills with a high level of comfort working with numbers.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present ideas clearly.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Microsoft Excel and Word.
- An interest in pursuing a career in underwriting and the insurance industry.
- A customer-focused mindset with strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- A preferred GPA of 3.0 or higher.
- Authorization to work in the United States without employment-based immigration sponsorship.
