About the role#
This 10-week summer internship provides hands-on experience in insurance underwriting within the Group Benefit Solutions division. Interns learn how to evaluate risk, assess potential customers, and develop pricing recommendations for group insurance solutions. The program includes formal training, mentorship, and real-world assignments designed to build a foundation in the insurance industry.
What you'll do#
- Participate in structured training sessions to build a foundational understanding of Group Benefits underwriting principles.
- Analyze real underwriting cases by assessing risk factors and contributing to pricing decisions.
- Collaborate with fellow interns on a summer-long project to strengthen analytical and teamwork skills.
- Attend speaker sessions and learning events led by New York Life leaders.
- Partner with an experienced underwriter through one-on-one mentorship.
What you'll need#
- Rising senior status pursuing a bachelor's degree in Risk Management, Economics, Finance, Accounting, Mathematics, Data Analytics, Business Management, or a related field.
- Strong analytical, quantitative, and critical thinking skills.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, specifically Excel and Word.
- A demonstrated interest in pursuing a career in underwriting and the insurance industry.
- Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without employment-based immigration sponsorship.

- Location: Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
- Work Modality: Hybrid (3 days per week in office).
- Term: Summer 2026.
- Status: Full-time, paid internship at $21 per hour.
