About the role#
New America is seeking a Communications Intern for the Education and Work programs. This role supports the communications team in raising the public profile of the programs and staff through various media tactics. The intern will work closely with a three-person team and receive mentorship throughout the term.
What you'll do#
- Assist in the creation and management of media lists using Meltwater.
- Track media coverage and compile stakeholder lists for project outreach.
- Manage social media accounts, including drafting and scheduling content for platforms like Bluesky and LinkedIn.
- Draft and build the weekly Education and Work newsletter.
- Provide analytics support by gathering data for donor reports.
- Update website landing pages and add media mentions.
- Handle special projects and administrative tasks as assigned.
What you'll need#
- Interest or experience in journalism, public relations, or marketing.
- Strong narrative writing skills with the ability to synthesize complex information into concise formats.
- Experience or interest in managing organizational social media accounts.
- Excellent time-management skills and the ability to prioritize tasks.
- Familiarity with collaborative platforms for scheduling and task management.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
Location & details#
- Location: Washington, DC (On-site).
- Term: Fall 2026 (mid-September through mid-December).
- Commitment: 18 to 25 hours per week.
- Compensation: $18 to $20 per hour, depending on experience.
