AI/ML Scientist Intern, AIMS AI Foundations (PhD) – Fall 2026

About the role#

The AIMS AI Foundations team focuses on the research and engineering foundations that support next-generation member experiences. This PhD internship is a hands-on applied research role where you will be embedded within the team to work on projects spanning agentic AI systems, LLM evaluation frameworks, multimodal modeling, and training data curation. You will operate with autonomy, translating novel research ideas into measurable improvements for members worldwide.

What you'll do#

• Design, run, and interpret experiments in an applied research setting.
• Build prototypes to test and validate research concepts.
• Contribute to ongoing team projects in core domain areas, including agentic AI, LLM evaluations, multimodal data, and training data curation.
• Translate research ideas into practical prototypes and evaluations.
• Present technical work clearly to team members.

What you'll need#

• Currently enrolled PhD student in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, Computer Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, Data Science, Cognitive Science, or a related field.
• Proficiency in Python.
• Strong foundation in machine learning, deep learning, and algorithms/statistics.
• Experience with major ML frameworks such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, or JAX.
• Ability to translate research ideas into practical prototypes and evaluations.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Availability to work 40 hours per week during the internship.
• Intention to return to school for at least one semester or quarter following the internship.
