About the role#
NAV CANADA is looking for an Aviation Predictive Analytics Co-op Student to join the Corporate Performance and Sustainability Team. You will work alongside analysts to build models that forecast aviation activity and business metrics. This role supports strategic planning and decision-making by applying data science to real-world aviation trends.
What you'll do#
- Develop, test, and refine statistical and machine learning models for aviation forecasting.
- Prepare, clean, and transform large datasets.
- Automate analytical workflows and track model performance.
- Build visual dashboards and reports to share findings.
- Collaborate with the team to analyze trends and validate model results.
- Document your processes and suggest improvements for model accuracy and interpretability.
- Research how aviation activity relates to macroeconomic indicators and external data.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an undergraduate or graduate program in Data Science, Statistics, Economics, Computer Science, or Engineering.
- A basic understanding of statistical or time-series concepts like regression, seasonality, and trends.
- Proficiency with Python and libraries such as pandas, matplotlib, scikit-learn, or statsmodels.
- Experience with SQL and data querying.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and a collaborative mindset.
- An interest in learning forecasting models such as ARIMA, Prophet, or Exponential Smoothing.
- Preferred experience includes data visualization tools, Git for version control, and workflow automation.
Location & details#
- This position is based at the Ottawa Head Office.
- The role is hybrid, requiring you to be on-site at least 3 days per week.
- This is a paid, full-time position.
- Occasional travel may be required.
