The intern will work closely with researchers to enhance grid reliability, resilience, and security over a 3 to 6 month term.
What you'll do#
- Set up Controller Hardware in the Loop (CHIL) interfaces using commercial microgrid controllers and relays for real-time simulation models of microgrids.
- Conduct HIL experiments using real-time simulation models of distribution feeders and hardware microgrid controllers.
- Implement sequences of operations for grid-connected and islanded operation of utility-scale microgrids.
- Analyze high-resolution data collected from real-time simulations and HIL experiments using Python.
- Contribute to or lead the writing of research papers and deliver high-impact work.
What you'll need#
- Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a Master's program, or currently enrolled in a Ph.D. program in Electrical Engineering (specializing in Power Systems) or a related field.
- Demonstrated knowledge or experience in power system modeling, dynamics, and control, including tools such as OpenDSS.
- Experience programming commercial relays and microgrid controllers.
- Experience working with RTDS simulators and devices such as SEL RTAC and SEL relays.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in Python programming.
Location & details#
- Location: Golden, Colorado (On-site at the South Table Mountain Campus).
