The National Renewable Energy Laboratory is seeking a graduate intern for a year-round position within the Strategic Energy Analysis Center. This role focuses on supporting renewable energy technology, policy, market, and regulatory projects through data-driven research and analysis. You will work on projects related to behind-the-meter solar analysis, contributing to research that informs energy systems and market solutions.
What you'll do#
- Collect, clean, and analyze data regarding solar permitting, inspection, and interconnection.
- Leverage Large Language Models (LLMs) and other technical tools for web scraping to produce novel datasets.
- Support research projects examining distributed solar policies and market analysis.
- Conduct data collection and analysis for renewable energy supply options for large non-residential, commercial, and industrial buyers.
- Perform literature reviews and spreadsheet analysis to support project objectives.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment as a full-time student in a master's degree program from an accredited institution.
- A minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0.
- Expertise in data collection, organization, cleaning, and manipulation.
- Familiarity with software for data scraping, managing, visualizing, and analyzing (R or Python preferred).
- Excellent research, written communication, and organizational skills.
- Proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to engage professionally with stakeholders.
- Relevant academic background in Data Science, Environmental Engineering, Computer Science, Business Administration, or Economics.
Location & details#
- Location: Remote (based in Golden, Colorado).
- Term: Rolling, year-round internship.
- Status: Full-time (40 hours per week).
- Compensation: Paid position.
- Requirements: All candidates must be able to obtain and maintain a federal Personal Identity Verification (PIV) card and pass a pre-employment drug test, which includes testing for marijuana.
