NATIONAL FFA CONVENTION & EXPO NEWSROOM JOURNALIST INTERNSHIP

About the role#

The National FFA Organization is seeking journalists to cover the 99th National FFA Convention & Expo. This internship provides access to a working newsroom environment where interns receive communications coaching from industry experts, including on-air TV journalists, radio broadcasters, and editors. Interns will produce content for a wide audience, including FFA members, media partners, and the organization’s national magazine, while building a professional portfolio.

What you'll do#

• Tell impactful stories through produced video news segments and digital articles.
• Conduct live and recorded interviews with convention attendees.
• Conceptualize and create one feature story per day, formatted for both TV broadcast and online publication.
• Organize material into cohesive, interesting narratives.
• Use networking skills to identify and pitch organic stories relevant to the convention experience.
• Collaborate with camera operators and editors to package content for streaming and web distribution.

What you'll need#

• Currently pursuing a degree in journalism, agricultural communications, public relations, telecommunications, or a closely related field.
• Professional demeanor and comfort appearing on camera.
• Experience conducting live interviews and gathering firsthand accounts.
• Ability to write stories on deadline and draft effective interview questions.
• Capacity to navigate the convention venue, which includes extended periods of walking, standing, and carrying equipment.
