About the role#
The Lodging Operations Internship at Nantahala Outdoor Center provides hands-on experience in housekeeping, public area operations, guest services, and hospitality management. You will progress from learning frontline responsibilities to understanding daily operations, leadership, and management. This 8 to 12 week program includes structured training, mentorship, and job shadowing to prepare you for a career in the hospitality industry.
What you'll do#
- Handle housekeeping and guestroom operations, including cleaning, room turnovers, and inspections.
- Maintain a clean and welcoming environment in public areas.
- Learn operational tasks such as occupancy planning, room assignments, staffing, scheduling, inventory, and quality control.
- Build skills in communication, teamwork, and problem-solving through practical experience.
- Shadow the Lodging Manager to gain exposure to operational planning, employee coaching, and decision-making.
- Complete a capstone project and presentation focused on improving lodging operations and the guest experience.
What you'll need#
- Interest in hospitality, tourism, resort management, or a related field.
- Willingness to perform hands-on housekeeping and public area tasks.
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to guest service.
- Ability to work in a team-oriented outdoor resort environment.
- Professionalism, initiative, and an openness to feedback.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Ability to lift up to 40 pounds and perform physical tasks like bending, stooping, and climbing stairs.
- Dependability, punctuality, and self-motivation.
