    About the role#

    The Climate and Health Graduate Intern supports the Healthy Homes and Communities team within the Multnomah County Health Department. This role focuses on addressing the health impacts of climate change through research, community engagement, and data analysis.

    What you'll do#

    • Conduct assessments of climate-related determinants of health.
    • Analyze high-resolution heat data, impervious surface inventories, right-of-way shade assessments, building-level heat vulnerability, and cooling prevalence.
    • Support updates to heat and cold vulnerability indices and research how these factors correlate with health outcomes.
    • Design and implement community engagement plans, including surveys, focus groups, and key informant interviews.
    • Conduct outreach events to connect with community members.
    • Prepare materials and coordinate events to share research and assessment findings.

    What you'll need#

    • Current enrollment in an accredited institution leading to a post-graduate degree or equivalent program.
    • One year of experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position.
    • Experience or training in public health, urban planning, climate adaptation planning, disaster response, or related fields.
    • Skills in quantitative and qualitative data analysis.
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
    • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with diverse communities and partners.
