About the role#
Moderna’s Bacterial Immunology team is seeking a motivated Co-op to support the development of mRNA-based vaccines. This 6-month experiential training program offers students the chance to gain hands-on experience in biotechnology, work under the supervision of experienced team members, and participate in cross-team collaboration. The program runs from January 18, 2027, through June 25, 2027.
What you'll do#
- Learn and apply new laboratory techniques while following established protocols.
- Assist in the execution and optimization of bacterial and immunological assays to support vaccine programs.
- Independently execute experiments and maintain thorough, accurate experimental documentation.
- Analyze, interpret, and communicate experimental data.
- Deliver reproducible, high-quality results within established timelines.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an undergraduate or graduate program in Microbiology, Molecular Genetics, Bacteriology, Biology, Molecular Biology, or a related field.
- Fundamental knowledge of or hands-on experience with wet lab techniques, such as pipetting, serial dilution, aseptic technique, bacterial growth, and mammalian cell culture.
- Ability to identify and apply scientific knowledge and experimental protocols from the literature.
- Legal authorization to work in the United States.
- Experience or knowledge in protein detection (e.g., ELISA, Western blot) or cell characterization (e.g., flow cytometry, microscopy) is preferred.
- Ability to troubleshoot experimental challenges and evaluate alternative approaches.
- Enthusiasm for curiosity, boldness, collaboration, and relentlessness.
Location & details#
- Location: Cambridge, Massachusetts.
- Work Modality: This position follows a 70/30 hybrid model, requiring 70% of work to be performed on-site.
- Employment: This is a full-time, paid position.
- Term: Winter 2027 and Summer 2027.
