About the role#
The Behavioral Health Program Intern works within the Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) as part of a multidisciplinary treatment team. You will provide supportive, educational, and rehabilitative services to adult and geriatric psychiatric patients. This role functions under the supervision of licensed clinical staff. You will not independently diagnose, provide psychotherapy, or establish treatment plans.
What you'll do#
- Facilitate or co-facilitate approved psychoeducational, coping-skills, wellness, and rehabilitative groups.
- Provide supportive patient contact and monitor participation and behavior.
- Observe and communicate changes in patient behavior, mood, or functioning to licensed clinical staff.
- Assist with standardized screenings, assessments, case management, and care coordination.
- Connect patients with community, social, vocational, educational, housing, and transportation resources.
- Participate in multidisciplinary treatment-team meetings and assist with discharge planning.
- Complete accurate, timely, and objective documentation.
- Support licensed staff with crisis support and de-escalation.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and professional boundaries.
What you'll need#
- Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Behavioral Science, Social Science, Human Services, or a closely related field.
- Previous experience working with adult or geriatric behavioral-health, psychiatric, or vulnerable populations is preferred.
- Strong communication, organization, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively under the supervision of licensed professionals and as part of a team.
- Current CPR/BLS and a crisis-management certification (such as MAB, PART, or CPI), or the ability to complete these during the probationary period.
- Completion of all required hospital orientation, safety, confidentiality, and infection-control training.
