Finance & Timekeeping, Emerging Talent Intern

About the role#

The Finance & Timekeeping Emerging Talent Intern supports the Staten Island Railway Finance and Timekeeping departments. This role manages critical operational functions including payroll processing, absence control compliance, and financial reporting to ensure accurate employee compensation and regulatory adherence.

What you'll do#

• Organize payroll documentation and maintain digital archives.
• Assist with filing and scanning employee absence records and prepare documentation for Absence Control Policy (ACP) sessions.
• Support payroll audit preparation, documentation review, and FMLA reporting data compilation.
• Assist with invoice tracking, reconciliation of payments, and purchase order processing.
• Maintain financial trackers, subledger records, and update SharePoint databases.
• Prepare data for Power BI reporting and assist with report generation for payroll and attendance analysis.
• Monitor procurement inboxes and track requisition statuses.
• Develop programs to provide visual financial and timekeeping analyses to stakeholders, including identifying absence patterns to prevent fraud.
• Implement technology-based platforms to automate manual processes and reduce overtime costs.

What you'll need#

• Current enrollment in an undergraduate program (minimum 2.5 GPA) or graduate program (minimum 2.8 GPA).
• Preferred majors include Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Data Science, Mathematics, or related fields.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
• Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
• Ability to prioritize tasks and work effectively under pressure.
• High attention to detail and ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
• Authorization to work in the United States.

• Compensation: $19.00 per hour for undergraduates; $21.00 per hour for graduate students.
