About the role#
Interns participate in the daily operations of a school psychologist within Metro Nashville Public Schools. This role provides exposure to assessment, evaluation, consultation, intervention, and decision-making processes for students in general and special education settings. You will work under the professional standards established by NASP and district standard operating procedures.
What you'll do#
- Adhere to NASP professional standards and ethics throughout the internship.
- Maintain a daily log documenting hours worked and activities performed.
- Participate in supervisory sessions and college-based internship meetings.
- Facilitate or participate in IEP team meetings to support student needs.
- Engage in data-based decision making as part of Student Support Teams.
- Consult with parents, school staff, and colleagues to support student outcomes.
- Provide school-based interventions, including individual and group counseling.
- Attend division in-services, training sessions, and staff meetings.
- Utilize assessment tools covering cognition, achievement, social-emotional, and behavioral domains.
- Communicate complex academic and psychological data to diverse stakeholders.
What you'll need#
- Completion of all graduate-level course requirements in school psychology prior to the start of the internship.
- Successful completion of required practica and a formal recommendation from your university.
- Ability to pass a background check.
- Proficiency in assessment, evaluation, consultation, and report writing as defined by NASP standards.
