About the role#
As a Research Scientist Intern, you will work within the Agios organization at Reality Labs Research. You will focus on the intersection of robot learning, dexterous control, and human-to-robot transfer. Your work centers on learned models that transform human demonstration data into executable robot behavior. This includes retargeting, manipulation policies, and teleoperation. You will work with mentors across hardware, simulation, controls, and policy learning teams.
What you'll do#
- Drive an independent research thread on learned control and motion transfer for dexterous hands.
- Build training pipelines for policy classes including flow matching, diffusion, imitation learning, reinforcement learning, large behavior models, and VLAs.
- Develop representations that fuse multimodal human and robot data into a shared action space.
- Construct data collection pipelines and benchmarks for dexterous manipulation.
- Collaborate with an interdisciplinary team of hardware, simulation, controls, and policy researchers.
- Communicate research plans, progress, and results.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Ph.D. program in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Robotics, or a related technical field.
- Understanding of the state of the art in learned dexterous manipulation and control.
- Experience with Python and PyTorch or JAX.
- Familiarity with ROS or comparable robotics middleware.
- Ability to obtain work authorization in the country of employment at the time of hire.
- Proven track record of results through grants, fellowships, patents, or first-authored publications.
- Experience training modern control policies including flow matching, diffusion, imitation learning, reinforcement learning, and large behavior models.
- Familiarity with robotics modeling such as kinematics, dynamics, trajectory optimization, motion planning, perception, task planning, and control theory.
- Hands-on experience with multi-fingered robotic hand manipulation and grippers.
- Experience with motion retargeting, sim-to-real and real-to-sim workflows, and collecting data from real robot hand demonstrations.
- Experience with multimodal or self-supervised representation learning, vision-based input recognition, and time sequence sensor data.
- Experience with hand force estimation, designing data collection protocols, and debugging prototype software and hardware systems.
- Intent to return to your degree program after the internship.
Location & details#
- Location: Redmond, Washington.
- Modality: On-site.
- Duration: Minimum 16 consecutive weeks.
- Employment: Full-time internship.
