About the role#
Met Council is hiring a Policy Fellow to join our Policy and Advocacy team. This role focuses on the impact of artificial intelligence on labor markets, wages, and economic security for low-income New Yorkers. You will support our broader anti-poverty agenda, which includes expanding food access, strengthening housing stability, and improving access to social services. This is a 12-month, full-time fellowship designed for recent graduates or early-career professionals.
What you'll do#
- Conduct original research on the labor-market impact of AI and complete a year-long capstone project on its effect on the communities we serve.
- Draft legislation, testimony, policy briefs, reports, and talking points for diverse audiences, including elected officials and the public.
- Collaborate with the Policy Director to develop and implement a public policy agenda centered on AI accountability and worker protections.
- Convene stakeholders from labor, industry, and government to discuss AI accountability.
- Identify advocacy opportunities within local, state, and federal policy processes.
- Contribute to grant applications and reports while supporting our government relations and food network teams.
- Engage with government agencies, partner organizations, and community stakeholders to ground policy work in frontline realities.
What you'll need#
- A Master's degree in public policy, law, or a related field is preferred. Candidates with a Bachelor's degree and relevant policy research experience will be considered.
- Demonstrated interest or background in technology and AI policy, specifically regarding workers and low-income communities.
- Familiarity with food, nutrition, benefits, or housing policy at the city, state, and federal levels.
- Knowledge of New York City and State legislative and budget processes.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
- Experience with public presentations and oral testimony.
- Grant writing and reporting skills.
- Preference for experience with data visualization and analytical tools such as ArcGIS, Tableau, Stata, or R.
Location & details#
- This is a hybrid position based in New York, NY, requiring three days on-site and two days remote.
- This is a paid, full-time position at $28.85 per hour.
