About the role#
Mesa Associates, Inc. is hiring an engineering student for a part-time Substation Engineering Internship in Chattanooga, Tennessee. This role offers an introduction to substation design, including both physical and protection and control projects. You will work under the supervision of designers and engineers to build your technical skills and learn how projects move from concept to completion. We prefer a commitment of at least 10 hours per week, with schedules that accommodate your academic responsibilities. There is a possibility to continue this role through the Spring 2027 semester.
What you'll do#
- Perform 2D drafting for designers and engineers.
- Create 3D parts and assemblies using CAD software.
- Redraw raster images into native CAD formats.
- Learn and apply basic design concepts for entry-level substation projects.
- Back check your own work to minimize the need for rework.
- Assist with administrative tasks and attend site visits to see substation operations in person.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an Electrical, Mechanical, or Civil Engineering program.
- A self-starter mindset with a strong interest in learning CAD software.
- Attention to detail and a hardworking approach.
- A genuine interest in substation design.
- Experience with MicroStation, AutoCAD, Inventor, or Microsoft Office is helpful but not required.
