About the role#
The Clinical Nursing Student role provides hands-on experience at St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital. You will work under the guidance of a Registered Nurse to support patient care, develop your clinical skills, and gain exposure to the nursing process. This is a part-time, on-site position with a rolling term.
What you'll do#
- Provide direct patient care, including assistance with hygiene, mobility, feeding, and vital signs.
- Support the Registered Nurse by acting as a liaison to report patient changes or concerns.
- Participate in patient data collection and maintain accurate, timely documentation.
- Collaborate with the healthcare team to ensure quality care and participate in shift hand-offs.
- Seek out educational opportunities to build critical thinking and nursing practice skills.
- Perform delegated tasks once your competency is validated.
- Utilize clinical technology and escalate concerns through the appropriate chain of command.
What you'll need#
- A high school diploma or GED.
- Current enrollment in a nursing program with at least one clinical nursing course and one clinical rotation completed.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to follow directions from the healthcare team.
- Knowledge of safety standards, infection prevention, and transmission-based precautions.
- A compassionate, relationship-based approach to patient care.
- Accountability for completing assigned tasks and maintaining professionalism.
- BLS certification and recent experience in an acute or long-term care facility are preferred.
- Experience with EPIC Electronic Health Record training is preferred.
