This internship focuses on the modeling, simulation, and analysis of coherent systems, including analog and opto-electronic components. You will work on-site in Irvine, California, contributing to the development of high-speed optical interfaces.
What you'll do#
- Perform modeling, simulation, and analysis of coherent systems, including analog components (ADC, DAC, drivers, TIA) and opto-electronic components (nested MZM, coherent optical mixers, photodiodes, lasers, optical mux/demux, optical amplifiers).
- Analyze fiber impairments such as CD, PMD, and non-linearities.
- Develop and implement DSP algorithms, including calibration of analog and optical non-idealities, equalizers, carrier frequency/phase recovery, and timing recovery.
- Utilize lab equipment, including spectrum analyzers, VOAs, and ASE generators.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a BS, MS, or PhD (preferred) in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.
- A strong background in signal processing and digital communications.
- Strong programming skills in Python, Matlab, C, or C++ within a Unix-type environment.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- 0-1 years of previous experience.
- Additional background in coherent optical systems, optical components, and silicon photonic integration is highly desired.
- Experience debugging complex analog issues and knowledge of digital design and DSP blocks are considered a plus.
