About the role#
The Communications Internship is housed within the Communication and Development team at Legal Aid of Southeast and Central Ohio (LASCO). This role supports outreach and development efforts to amplify the organization's message, engage supporters, and build community relationships. Interns will work closely with the Communications Director and the development team to inform and engage stakeholders, including clients, donors, pro bono attorneys, and community partners.
What you'll do#
- Assist in implementing the communications and outreach plan.
- Draft, design, and curate content for monthly newsletters, including client stories and impact highlights.
- Support the creation and distribution of fundraising appeals, including database management, donor research, and messaging.
- Manage social media content and coordinate outreach with press and media outlets.
- Attend and contribute to weekly communications and development team meetings.
- Conduct research and contribute ideas to strengthen stakeholder engagement.
What you'll need#
- Strong verbal and written communication skills tailored to different audiences.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
- Creative, organized, and eager to learn.
- Passion for social justice and serving under-served communities.
- Experience with Canva, Hootsuite, or Mailchimp is a plus, though not required.
- Interest or experience in nonprofit communications, marketing, public relations, or fundraising is a plus.
- Preferred majors include Communications, Marketing, Public Health, Political Science, Psychology, Sociology, Journalism, or Business Administration.

- Schedule: Full-time (30-40 hours per week).
- Compensation: $20 per hour.
