    About the role#

    This internship offers undergraduate students the chance to participate in practical research, design, and analysis within the Laser Systems Engineering and Operations Division. You will support the National Ignition Facility and Photon Sciences Directorate by working alongside engineers, scientists, and technical staff. The role focuses on areas such as optics processing, design engineering, data mining, motion control, and electromechanical systems.

    What you'll do#

    • Provide technical, design, or analytical support to various engineering and research projects.
    • Participate in research activities under close supervision.
    • Gather and analyze data to support scientific research goals.
    • Attend relevant seminars to expand your technical knowledge.
    • Prepare a poster for the annual Summer Poster Symposium.
    • Perform other duties as assigned by your supervisor.

    What you'll need#

    • Enrollment as a continuing college or university student in good standing.
    • Pursuing an undergraduate degree in engineering, physics, optics, computer science, or a related field.
    • Ability to apply basic engineering or scientific principles to solve technical problems.
    • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
    • Proficiency with personal computers and familiarity with Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
    • Clear communication skills for documenting work, presenting concepts, and giving technical talks.
    • Eligibility to access the Laboratory in compliance with Section 3112 of the National Defense Authorization Act.
    • A GPA of 3.5 or above is desired.
