About the role#
This internship provides students with hands-on experience in construction project engineering. You will work under the guidance of project managers and senior staff to support capital projects. The program runs for 12 weeks during the summer of 2027. You will gain exposure to project lifecycles, from initial planning to final closeout, while working with other engineering personnel.
What you'll do#
- Assist project managers with essential job functions, including pre-remodel checklists and as-built drawings.
- Support the contractor bid process and attend weekly job meetings.
- Manage equipment orders, track deliveries, and oversee store fixture installation.
- Inspect capital projects to ensure compliance with specifications and quality control standards.
- Coordinate plan reviews for refrigeration, electrical, and mechanical systems with technical staff.
- Review architecture plans and proposed change orders for accuracy.
- Complete estimates and manage minor capital projects.
- Prepare a cumulative project summary to present to the executive team.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a degree in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial Engineering, or Construction Management at an accredited university.
- A preferred GPA of 3.0 or higher.
- Prior experience in a construction environment.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to work independently or in a group.
- High attention to detail and ability to maintain information confidentiality.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to interpret data and apply it to business needs.
- Commitment to quality customer service.

- Location: Hutchinson, Kansas.
- Term: Summer 2027 (May 17 to August 6).
- Modality: On-site, full-time.
- Compensation: This is a paid internship.
