About the role#
KLA is hiring an Algorithm Engineering Intern to join the Semiconductor Products and Customers division. You will work on inspection and metrology systems that help manufacturers detect defects in wafers and chips. This role involves end-to-end algorithm development, from initial prototyping to deploying production-quality software.
What you'll do#
- Apply machine learning and deep learning techniques to image transformation and defect detection.
- Analyze large-scale image datasets and evaluate the performance of your algorithms.
- Prototype solutions using Python, PyTorch, and TensorFlow.
- Develop production-quality code using Modern C++ and Python.
- Use best practices for software design, testing, debugging, and version control.
- Collaborate with teams of software, systems, and application engineers to move solutions into production environments.
What you'll need#
- You are currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Physics, Data Science, or a related field.
- A strong background in computer vision, image processing, machine learning, deep learning, or pattern recognition.
- Proficiency in C++ or Python.
- Familiarity with ML frameworks like PyTorch or TensorFlow.
- Experience with CNNs, vision transformers, or segmentation models is preferred.
- Experience with image enhancement, registration, feature extraction, or anomaly detection is a plus.

- This position is based in Milpitas, California.
- The work modality is on-site.
- This is a full-time, paid internship with a rolling term.
