About the role#
As an Optical Engineer Intern, you will join the Semiconductor Products and Customers business unit. You will contribute to the development of inspection, metrology, and analytics systems that support high-volume manufacturing for logic and memory chips. This role focuses on delivering high-impact work within your area of expertise to advance key business priorities.
What you'll do#
- Model optical performance and define tolerances for optical assemblies using software such as Zemax, CodeV, LightTools, or FRED.
- Perform high-precision optical alignment and validate imaging performance.
- Apply knowledge of imaging system aberrations, Fourier optics, polarization, and Radiometry to technical challenges.
- Engage in hands-on lab work and solve problems within a multi-disciplinary environment.
- Communicate technical findings effectively through written and verbal channels.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a PhD program, with an expected graduation date within the next year.
- Academic focus in optical engineering, optical sciences, or a related field.
- Experience with at least one optical modeling software package.
- Methodical approach to problem-solving and attention to detail.
- Proficiency in Python or Matlab is preferred.

- This is a full-time, paid internship based on-site in Milpitas, California.
- The position follows a rolling term structure.
