About the role#
The Commissioning Engineer Intern supports the electrical commissioning team throughout the project lifecycle, from initial estimating through construction completion. You will work with project teams to perform electrical commissioning reviews and assist with technical documentation. While you will gain exposure to complex power technologies, you will work alongside technical managers and subject matter experts to ensure project success.
What you'll do#
- Assist with design reviews for power, power delivery, and renewable energy projects.
- Attend factory acceptance tests for electrical equipment such as switchgears, transformers, and relay panels.
- Develop electrical initial energization procedures for systems like switchyards and back-feed configurations.
- Draft commissioning procedures and assist onsite teams with major project milestones.
- Travel to project sites for short durations to conduct audits, review energization plans, and support major startup evolutions.
- Perform electrical commissioning reviews during the estimating, engineering, procurement, and construction phases.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an undergraduate or graduate degree program for Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
- A cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher is preferred.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team to meet project deadlines.
- Strong organizational skills, time management, and attention to detail.
- A commitment to maintaining a safe work environment and high ethical standards.
- Ability to access all areas of a construction site across various climates and environments.
- Capability to follow oral and written instructions effectively.
- Professional communication skills for interactions with supervisors and team members.
Location & details#
- This is a full-time, paid internship for Summer 2027.
- The role is based in Lenexa, Kansas, with the expectation of travel to project sites as needed.
- This position requires on-site work and the flexibility to work overtime or weekends if project requirements dictate.
