About the role#
As an R&D RF/Microwave Engineer Intern on the ADS Platform team, you will bridge the gap between electrical engineering design workflows and core software platform capabilities. You will work primarily at the Python API level to build design automation solutions, validate workflows, and explore modern developer productivity tools. This role requires collaboration with software developers to refine APIs and evaluate emerging technologies.
What you'll do#
- Develop Python scripts, tools, and utility packages to automate schematic capture, layout manipulation, design-rule verification, and report generation.
- Act as an internal first customer for new Python API endpoints to evaluate usability and identify functional gaps.
- Collaborate with C++ core developers to refine API interfaces.
- Prototype novel application extensions, including custom workflow automation and scripting integrations.
- Develop experimental AI-assisted tooling such as LLM orchestration and Model Context Protocol servers.
- Build example scripts, user guides, and reference projects to demonstrate automation methods.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a technical discipline.
- Expected graduation date after Summer 2027.
- Solid understanding of electrical engineering principles, circuit theory, schematic entry, and physical layout concepts.
- Proficiency in Python for scripting, data processing, and task automation.
- Ability to translate engineering workflows into clean, reusable Python scripts.
- Hands-on experience with EDA tools like Keysight ADS, Cadence Virtuoso, or Altium Designer.
- Exposure to circuit simulation environments such as SPICE, Spectre, or ADS.
- Familiarity with software development utilities like REST APIs, JSON/YAML data processing, or Python frameworks.
- Experience with AI/LLM technology concepts, including prompt engineering, tool calling, or MCPs.
Location & details#
