About the role#
This internship provides hands-on training and development for those pursuing a career in commercial and industrial electrical systems. You will work alongside experienced electricians to gain practical skills in installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting. The role offers a structured learning path to understand building electrical systems, safety protocols, and code compliance in a professional environment.
What you'll do#
- Use testing equipment like multimeters, ammeters, and voltage testers to diagnose electrical issues.
- Assist with inspecting and maintaining electrical distribution systems, lighting, power outlets, and equipment connections.
- Install and maintain building electrical systems including lighting fixtures, circuit breakers, transformers, and control panels.
- Read and interpret electrical schematics, blueprints, and technical documentation.
- Document electrical work, materials used, and system modifications in facility management systems.
- Support energy efficiency initiatives by learning about LED retrofits and lighting controls.
- Attend safety training and follow National Electrical Code standards.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand how electrical systems integrate with building infrastructure.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in or recent completion of a program in electrical technology, electrical engineering, or a related field.
- Basic understanding of electrical theory and safety practices.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and mechanical aptitude.
- Good mathematical skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to follow detailed instructions and safety protocols.
- Physical capability to work in various positions and environments, including ladders and confined spaces.
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
- Previous experience or exposure to electrical work in residential, commercial, or industrial settings is preferred.
- Familiarity with electrical codes such as NEC or NFPA.
- Basic computer skills for documentation.
- Knowledge of building automation or control systems.
- Experience reading electrical schematics or technical diagrams.
- OSHA 10-hour certification or other relevant safety training is a plus.
- Interest in pursuing an apprenticeship or certification in the electrical field.
