Activity Specialist - Intern

About the role#

The Activity Specialist Intern supports the Arts and Community Exploration (ACE) program by assisting individuals with developmental disabilities in participating in educational, recreational, and volunteer activities. This is an unpaid, on-site internship with a rolling term.

What you'll do#

• Provide group and individual support and supervision to ACE program participants.
• Assist in assessing individual needs and desires, attend interdisciplinary team meetings, and contribute to the development of person-centered service and support plans.
• Facilitate facility-based activities, including arts and crafts, games, exercise, and daily topics.
• Research and develop appropriate individual and group community activities, including cultural and recreational opportunities.
• Assist with activities of daily living and instrumental activities of daily living, including meal preparation and personal care.
• Monitor progress toward outcomes and maintain accurate documentation.
• Provide feedback to the Team Lead and Arts and Community Exploration Manager.

What you'll need#

• Current enrollment in an academic internship program, with a preference for majors in Psychology, Human Resources, Kinesiology, Nursing, or Public Health.
• Ability to work effectively in a team setting.
• Possession of or willingness to obtain CPR, first aid, and safety certifications.
• Physical ability to lift up to 40 pounds, bend, kneel, stoop, and perform push/pull motions to assist clients and move equipment.
• Completion of the primary COVID-19 vaccination series as defined by CDC guidance prior to the start date.
