About the role#
This is a full-time, paid internship for Summer 2027. You will support GIS professionals with mapping transmission lines, poles, and substations. You will also assist with GIS applications for the vegetation management program and other tasks related to the transmission system. This position is on-site in Novi, Michigan.
What you'll do#
- Create or update systems and databases for specific department needs.
- Coordinate record updates with engineers, consultants, project managers, and maintenance personnel.
- Perform drawing control functions, including revision control and archiving.
- Generate maps, drawings, GIS layers, applications, and data sets.
- Assist in the development and maintenance of asset management systems for transmission infrastructure.
- Prepare GIS layers and data sets for internal departments and external entities.
- Adhere to documentation standards for geospatial data inputs and management processes.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an accredited degree program for Geographic Information Systems or Information Technology.
- Familiarity with ESRI products including ArcGIS Desktop, ArcGIS Pro, and ArcGIS Online.
- Knowledge of GIS data editing techniques.
- Understanding of geodatabases, coordinate systems, map projections, and transformations.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Access.
- Ability to learn and use job-specific software.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work under minimal supervision.
- Availability to work 40 hours per week.
- Authorization to work in the United States without visa sponsorship.
