About the role#
As a Process Safety Engineering Co-op Student, you will join the Engineering Services team to support early-phase project development. You will contribute to process hazard evaluations and safety engineering deliverables while building foundational skills in risk analysis and safety standards under the guidance of senior engineers. This role focuses on integrating process safety principles into project concepts and supporting the organization’s Process Safety Management program.
What you'll do#
- Assist with Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) report review and quality control.
- Track action items and follow-ups.
- Contribute to Quantitative Risk Analysis (QRA) activities, including consequence modeling and basic risk calculations.
- Summarize technical results for review by senior engineers.
- Support functional safety deliverables such as SIL Selection (LOPA) and Safety Requirements Specifications (SRS).
- Review and apply industry codes, standards, and regulations including API, NFPA, CSA, and CCPS.
- Research and share industry trends and lessons learned.
- Support departmental safety initiatives through coordination, content creation, and communication.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical, or Industrial Engineering program.
- Commitment to returning to school after the work term.
- Strong interest in process safety, risk management, and engineering design.
- Experience participating in or leading process hazard analysis.
- Ability to interpret technical standards and apply them to practical engineering scenarios.
- Proactive communication skills and comfort working in multidisciplinary teams.
- A curious, self-driven approach to learning.
