About the role#
You will join the Future Forward group at Intuitive, which focuses on advanced concepts for robotic-assisted surgery. You will report to an engineering lead and own an open-ended research project. We will define the specific project based on your background and the team's current priorities. The goal is to produce a working prototype with clear evaluation results that the team can continue to develop.
What you'll do#
- Own an open-ended research and prototyping project.
- Explore applications of computer vision, generative AI, and agentic AI in the operating room.
- Build and test prototypes against clear baselines.
- Collaborate with researchers, engineers, and clinical experts.
- Share your findings through documentation and a final presentation.
- Contribute to publications or patent filings when appropriate.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Doctorate program in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, or Mechanical Engineering. Master's students with two or more years of relevant industry or research experience are also considered.
- Research or applied experience in computer vision, generative AI, robotics, or agentic AI.
- Strong Python skills and hands-on experience with a deep learning framework like PyTorch.
- A history of taking loosely defined problems to a result.
- Ability to set up fair experimental comparisons.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills.
- Must be returning to an accredited degree-seeking program after the internship.
