About the role#
This internship focuses on the intersection of high-performance computing (HPC) and quantum processors. You will join a multidisciplinary team to build integration software that manages hybrid workflows. Your work will involve creating resource management systems and interfaces that coordinate tasks across classical and quantum backends.
What you'll do#
- Design and implement components for workflow orchestration software and libraries.
- Create resource management, scheduling, and workload coordination APIs for distributed systems.
- Build interfaces between HPC job schedulers and quantum runtimes.
- Write tools in Python, Rust, and C to handle interoperability, data movement, and runtime monitoring.
- Work with system architects, HPC engineers, and quantum software teams to align workflows with performance goals.
- Participate in open-source development, including documentation, testing, and design reviews.
- Contribute to engineering practices like CI/CD, performance instrumentation, and interface design.
What you'll need#
- Proficiency in Python and at least one systems programming language such as C, C++, or Rust.
- Experience with modern software engineering practices.
- Hands-on experience with HPC software like OpenMP, MPI, or GPU programming.
- Familiarity with resource managers such as Slurm, PBS, or Grid Engine.
- Experience with quantum computing ecosystems like Qiskit, OpenQASM, or CUDA-Q.
- Ability to gather user requirements, release software, and manage post-release maintenance.
- A collaborative mindset to work with research organizations, clients, and vendors.
- Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering.
Location & details#
- Location: Yorktown Heights, New York, United States.
- Term: Summer 2027.
