About the role#
As a Quantum Hardware EDA and Circuit Design Intern, you will work within IBM Quantum to support the development of scalable quantum computing systems. You will focus on the design, simulation, and optimization of circuits and workflows. Your work will involve microwave and RF circuit design, electromagnetic simulation, and the application of AI-enabled methods to improve circuit design, verification, and automation.
What you'll do#
- Contribute to the design and optimization of circuits that support quantum hardware.
- Develop practical tools and design approaches for qubit control, readout, and packaging.
- Collaborate directly with circuit designers, EDA developers, and researchers.
- Build and refine design workflows to improve system performance.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a graduate program related to electrical engineering, microwave or RF engineering, electronic design automation, computer engineering, or AI/ML.
- Coursework or project experience in microwave or RF circuits, electromagnetics, IC design, or AI for EDA.
- Experience with EDA environments like Cadence Virtuoso or Synopsys Custom Compiler.
- Programming skills in Python or a comparable language for simulation, automation, or machine learning workflows.
- Experience with microwave or RF component design, such as filters, amplifiers, or resonators.
- Familiarity with electromagnetic simulation tools such as Ansys HFSS, Keysight ADS, Cadence AWR, Sonnet, or COMSOL.
- Knowledge of EDA workflows including schematic capture, layout, physical design, and verification.
- Experience applying AI methods like reinforcement learning, graph neural networks, or Bayesian optimization to EDA tasks.
- Familiarity with Git or GitHub for version control.
- A record of contributions or publications in circuit design, EDA, or AI venues.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to communicate technical work in a research setting.

- This role is based in Yorktown Heights, New York.
- The position is on-site.
- This is a full-time, paid internship with a rolling start date.
