About the role#
We are looking for a mechatronics intern to support the development of LeLamp, our character robot. You will move between mechanical prototyping and controls work. This is a hands-on role for a generalist who prefers working across the physical stack rather than specializing in one domain. You will work in a small, collaborative team to build robots designed for everyday environments.
What you'll do#
- Build and iterate on prototyping rigs, including mechanical assembly, wiring, and basic controls integration.
- Manage lower-level controls tasks like sensor wiring, calibration, and writing simple test scripts.
- Support mechanical design tasks such as CAD iteration, fixture design, and fit checks.
- Bridge mechanical and controls work as the product matures by running reliability cycles and troubleshooting integration issues.
- Translate mechanical design changes into controls adjustments.
- Document test results and communicate findings to the team.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in a degree program for Mechatronics, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience with CAD software like SolidWorks, Onshape, or Fusion360.
- Exposure to basic controls or embedded work through class projects, personal builds, or prior internships.
- Hands-on experience with rapid prototyping, machining, microcontrollers, or test rigs.
- Ability to work in unfamiliar systems and create order in chaotic environments.
- A holistic approach to problem-solving and a desire to own outcomes.
- Comfort working in rapid iteration cycles without needing constant mentorship.
Location & details#
- This position is located in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
- This is a full-time, on-site, paid internship.
- The term follows a rolling schedule.
