About the role#
As a Civil Engineer Intern at Houston Engineering, you will split your time between field work and office tasks. You will support our engineering team on local projects while gaining hands-on experience. We aim to tailor your internship to your specific interests, whether that involves roadway design, drainage analysis, or erosion control.
What you'll do#
- Assist with plan specifications, project estimates, and construction documentation.
- Create and update AutoCAD Civil 3D drawings and project redlines.
- Use software including AutoCAD Civil 3D, MicroStation, and ArcGIS.
- Operate survey equipment like GPS and Total Station.
- Collect data and observe activities at various project sites.
- Help with the research, development, and design of engineering projects.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in a Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Agricultural and Biological Systems Engineering, Bioproducts and Biosystem Engineering, or related program.
- Strong math and communication skills.
- A valid driver's license and the ability to travel overnight.
- Comfort working outdoors for extended periods.
- Completed coursework in general surveying and AutoCAD is preferred.

- Compensation: $22 to $24 per hour, depending on experience.
